Born to be GMO FREE

“Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are made by forcing genes from one species, such as bacteria, viruses, animals, or humans, into the DNA of a food crop or animal in order to introduce a new trait”.

Definition supplied from the NON-GMO Shopping Guide put out by the Institute For Responsible Technology.

This is a hot topic right now.  There are so many sources of information for learning more about genetically engineered foods.  A great video to view is “Genetic Roulette” by Jeffrey M. Smith.  I had the distinct pleasure of attending a debate featuring Jeffrey and a bio-tech engineer at a resort in Cordillera near Edwards, Colorado.  The debate was televised on CSPAN.  A few weeks later I attended an informal talk given by Jeffrey Smith on GMO’s in Carbondale, Colorado.

From my own personal experience, I do believe removing GMO’s from my daily diet combined with eating gluten-free, has eliminated the horrible eczema that I suffered with for many, many years.  Whether or not you agree with the scientific evidence regarding the hazards of genetically engineered foods, I hope that you do agree that we should at least be informed if our foods were grown from GMO seeds or contain GMO’s in the ingredients.  By labeling the foods, we consumers can make our own decisions what to buy.  Labels don’t stop the products from being sold, they just give us a more informed choice.  There is so much more that needs to be done to clean up food in America, but this is a good START.
